Academia began with a simple weakness: rooms where people have been reading for a very long time. Libraries lit by one lamp. Cathedral windows doing something extravagant with a grey afternoon. A desk with too many books open at once. Everything here is drawn for this shop — candle-lit interiors, gothic stonework, Victorian specimens with a slightly funereal streak. It is a mood more than a subject: old knowledge, kept slightly in shadow. The range is prints first, because these belong on a wall in a room where you actually sit down. Phone cases came second, for carrying a bit of the same atmosphere around in daylight. Everything is printed to order, so nothing sits boxed in a warehouse hoping to be wanted.
